In March 2024, the Real Estate/Gold ratio signaled that money was moving from real estate into gold.
From Jan 2021 to March 2024, my Roth IRA was invested in two REITs – AVB and EQR.
During those 38 months, the total return (including dividends) for AVB was 36.1% – and it was 27.6% for EQR.
By comparison, the price of gold (as measured by the ETF “GLD”), was up only 12.8% during that period.
In March 2024 – based on the chart “signal” referenced above – Robert Campbell sold all of his AVB and EQR – and moved 100% of the proceeds into GLD.
The investment results since March 2024?
As of Jan 28, 2026 – GLD is up 140%, AVB is up 3.4%, and EQR is up 6.8%.
Moral of Story: Follow the Money
We do not live in a static world. Money shifts from one major asset class into another major asset class.
To outperform as an investor, you need to re-orient your thought process to this phenomena. Both REITS and GLD are going up – but relative to the REITs, GLD is going up faster.
